Separate Self

'Love yourself more, accept yourself.
You need to learn to give yourself grace.
Be kind to yourself, allow yourself space.'
Says the ego, selling solutions to a problem it just made up...

Who's this self you're working on?
Or treating a certain way?
Where is this person, this 'you' you describe?
And who is the one offering the advice?
Are there two you's, or is there one,
Which one is real when all the work's been done?

A thought about 'you' isn't you.
An idea about a person doesn't make it true.

You are the consciousness in which all consciousness occurs,
Not a person growing, or not growing,
Seeing or not seeing,
Able or not able,
But the peace beneath and through it all,
Aware of what's occurring,
Within your loving heart.

The thought of a self, the sense of a me,
The feeling of being, or not being, who you think you should be.
Is the source of all suffering.
Let go of the 'I' thought, and all stress melts away,
Like ice cream on a summer day.

There's nothing to fear,
You cannot die.
